Two opportunities to learn more about Medicaid Expansion on Thursday, February 26,
both will be held in Mehegan Classroom, basement of Gutensohn Clinic, 600 W. Jefferson, Kirksville

The noon hour offering is an educational presentation, "Closing the Coverage Gap: The Medicaid Expansion Debate", by Sidney Watson, JD, St. Louis University School of Law.  A light lunch will be provided, please RSVP by calling 660-665-0330 on or before Tuesday, February 24.  Sponsors include the Northeast Missouri Rural Health Network, ATSU Area Health Education Center, ATSU Aging Studies Project and IHI-KCOM Open Scholar Chapter.

The evening event begins at 5:30 p.m. and will be a panel discussion sharing about how "Health Care in Rural Missouri Matters!".  Panelists include: Jocelyn Eppich, Certified Application Counselor - Northeast Missouri Health Council; Sidney Watson, Professor of Law - St. Louis University; Rev. Johnnette Shane, Vicar - Trinity Episcopal Church of Kirksville; Brian Smith, Rural Organizer - Missouri Rural Crisis Center; and Jessica Adams, Outreach Coordinator - Missouri Budget Project.  This program is sponsored by the Northeast Missouri Rural Health Network, Missouri Rural Crisis Center, Missouri Medicaid Coalition, Missouri Budget Project, Missouri Nurses Association, Northeast Missouri Health Council and Rural Advocates for Independent Living .

 Online, Off-Tobacco

Preferred Family Healthcare offers a FREE tobacco cessation program.  The Online, Off-Tobacco is a truly innovative program, and available 100% online.  The program lasts 7 weeks with only a 1-hour session per week.  Sessions can be taught through group or one-on-one instruction by a trained facilitator. Online, Off-Tobacco follows the American Lung Association’s, Freedom from Smoking® curriculum.  Participants receive education from a trained instructor, free participant workbook and $50 in nicotine replacement therapy (patches, gum or lozenges) after 3 sessions.  As an alternative, participants can quit cold turkey and still receive a $25 gift card to a sporting goods store of your choice.
